The sixth graders will be going on a field trip to the Science Museum of Minnesota on Monday, February 28th, 2011. They will be attending the Omnitheater film, Mummies: Secrets of the Pharaohs. The film takes students on a journey back thousands of years to the age of the great pharaohs to explore why mummification was so vital to ancient Egyptian life. Visit smm.org/mummies to view a trailer of the movie.
Students will also have a chance to tour the exhibit Tutankhamun: The Golden King and the Great Pharaohs where they will have an opportunity to see the treasures, history and culture of ancient Egypt. The exhibit has more than 100 authentic treasures from King Tut’s tomb and other notable ancient sites. Students will learn about the pharaohs and their function in the earthly and divine worlds, the archaeology behind Howard Carter’s discovery of Tut’s hidden tomb in 1922, and the science that allows us to continue our exploration of these amazing treasures. Visit smm.org/tut to learn more about the King Tut exhibit.
